The Beginner's Guide to Crossfit

So, you made a life-changing decision to start CrossFit. Congrats and welcome to the community!

We gathered the good-to-know tips from both coaches and athletes to guide you at the start of this amazing journey. We hope this will make the intro to the sport of fitness smooth, safe, and exciting.

Here we go:

Tip 1. There is no minimum level of fitness required. You are joining to become fitter, not to demonstrate your current performance. The workouts are going to be scaled for your needs so you work at high intensity and improve your movements.

Tip 2. Choose the CrossFit box wisely. It would be great if you could join the one nearest to your home or work, but do your homework first. This simple hack will increase your chances of finding the right environment for you and stop you from leaving and disrupting your fitness journey. Check out reviews on Facebook and Google, they will tell you all about the coaches and the community in question.

Tip 3. Don’t rush. You will be overexcited once you start. Don't chase the volume, for now, you need to focus on practicing the skills, technique, and increasing the intensity. Once you have learnt the basics, you can then start going faster and heavier.

Tip 4. You should take more rest days than you think you need. The common prescription is 3 days on, 1 day off, however it may be too much for a beginner. From our experience, an athlete will progress much faster if they recover properly. We recommend working out 3-4 times a week for the first 2 months to get used to CrossFit training sessions.

Tip 5. Be ready for the lingo. You may be confused by all the abbreviations at the beginning! The WODs may be AMRAPs and EMOMs, you’ll learn HSPU and T2B and will look for your RM's. Don’t worry, you’ll become bilingual in a month!

Tip 6. Get the right gear and shoes. The shoes should be designed for high-intensity training with many jumps and have a flat, rigid sole for lifting. There are a few specific models of well-known brands that are popular among both beginners and elite athletes. As for the your outfit – make sure it’s not too loose and is designed to keep you dry.
